I've been thinking about dual swords and shields lately and will be employing the following:
Use of a shield gives a -1 cliche die to the person attacking a shield bearer. e.g.
Mamluk A attacks Mamluk B, both are Mamluk 3. Mamluk B has a shield. Mamluk A rolls 2 dice due to Mamluk B's shield. Mamluk B still rolls 3 dice. We are assuming Mamluk A has one weapon and no shield.
Dual weapons grant the wielder +1 cliche die when using two weapons. e.g
Mamluk A attacks Mamluk B, both are Mamluk 3. Mamluk A rolls 4 dice due to using two swords. Mamluk B still rolls 3 dice. We are assuming Mamluk B has one weapon and no shield.
So in the case where Mamluk A has dual swords and Mamluk B is using a shield, both would roll 3 dice.
When it comes to henchmen/grunt squads, they will only receive this bonus when they are all outfitted the same. Having 2 of 3 in a grunt squad outfitted with shields leaves a hole in their defenses and therefore will not receive any bonus.
They do not receive this bonus when they Team Up with the player's main character as they can only confer a die bonus if a 6 is rolled.
The player must remind the GM if dual weapons or shields are being used during each combat encounter.
These bonuses will never bring someones cliche down to a Zero (in the case of a shield), nor will they bring someone's cliche up to a One (in the case of dual weapons).
These bonuses only apply when they are applicable. A shield or dual weapons against a ranged mind attack is useless.
These bonuses apply only to the group using them. If three seperate groups are attacking one group and one of the three groups are using shields, then the -1 cliche die applies only to them and no one else. In this case, the last die rolled will be dropped for that group but will be used for the rest.
