"What's my name," you ask. "Why?" Well then most people call me Amir.
"Prince," you ask---yes look around. I am the prince of all that you see--this desert is my home.
My real name is Jameel Rahman ibn Rasheed, but few people know that. My childhood was one of luxury until my father lost everything to his enemies and I was sold into slavery. My size and strength set me on the path of the Mameluke. After a few years of training and finally being sent to war---my whole unit was destroyed. Somehow, I survived and a young woman named Sameera found me. Her tribe nursed me back to health and would have sent me on my way had I not saved their Chief one night when raiders attacked.
These wonderful people taught me how to survive in the desert and how to raid my enemies. I am reluctant to spend too much time around civilization, unless my slave background be discovered and I may be forced back to that life. Not that it was a bad one---and there were even opportunities for promotion. But, Sameera and I have fallen in love and I am just waiting to earn (steal) enough camels and horses to make a good offer to her father.
I love the desert---the colors, the sounds, the heat, the wind, everything about it it entrancing.
